Those of us of a certain age were told by our stern-faced mothers to, “Eat everything on the plate, because there are children just like you who are going without food today.”

Well, there are still children out there going without food. But somehow we seem to have lost the import of Mom’s stern warning. As today we waste about 40% of the food we produce. 40 percent!
And it’s not just our food that is being wasted. It’s our time, money, know-how and even the resources of mother earth herself. 40 percent!
We are wasting so much food our governments are passing laws that prevent us from throwing our food waste into our municipal garbage dumps. And so today we pause to ask…
