The Goat Milk War – Urban Farmers for Food Freedom

Gingi Freeman needed goat milk for her babies, but did not want to pay the $32 per gallon, and so raised a miniature goat, for which the City of Visalia will fine her $1,000 per day.

She does not know who reported her– maybe the grumpy neighbor, or the utility worker on the power pole– but someone did, and so Gingi got the letter from the City of Visalia threatening the $1,000 fine and the confiscation of the family pet and milk provider.
But rather then giving in, and driving up to Fresno for the $32 per gallon organic goat milk, Gingi formed Urban Farmers for Food Freedom and went to war to win the right to raise her pet miniature goat.
But the Visalia City Council fought back with a 3 to 2 “No” vote against city residents raising chickens or goats.
And so Gingi Freeman and Friends came back with a petition campaign to allow the raising of miniature goats and chickens in residential neighborhoods. “Much quieter and less waste then dogs,” says Gingi. “And furthermore, our iniative could cost the city $120,000 to put on the ballot!”
This fight for the right to have food animals in the city leads us to ask you…
