We are killing off our swimmers.

Michael Olson Food Chain Radio – Why did American men lose 60% of their sperm?

According to a study published in the journal Human Reproduction, men in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, have experienced a 52% loss in sperm concentration and a nearly 60% loss in total sperm count. And that kill only took 40 years.

To find those numbers, researchers led by Dr. Hagai Levine of Hebrew University of Jerusalem examined studies of the semen samples of 43 thousand males between 1973 and 2011.

Levine wrote. “The high proportion of men in Western countries with low sperm concentrations is particularly concerning, because evidence indicates that a sperm concentration below this threshold is associated with a decreased monthly probability of conception. The extent of the decline is a heartache. It’s hard to believe!”

Though Levine’s study did not examine the cause of the kill, previous studies, including that of his own, have shown that endocrine disrupting chemicals can harm male reproductive system development and fertility potential.

Levine’s work, and that of others, leads us to ask

Leave a comment below: What endocrine disruptors are we eating that is killing off our swimmers?
