When oil hit sixty dollars a barrel, the federal government established a Renewable Fuel Standard to support plant-based alternative biofuel.
Michael Olson Food Chain Radio – Should the federal government continue plant-based biofuel subsidies?
The federal government has since subsidized biofuels with tax credits and price supports, and when oil hit a hundred and forty seven dollars a barrel, the renewable fuels industry boomed.
But then came the Bakken and Permian basins, and a glut of oil that sent prices plunging. The biofuel tax credits have now expired and their renewal is pending before a new president and new congress.
And that leads us to ask…

Good topic, simple answer is when oil is taxed at a rate to pay for it’s environmental costs, and the oil extraction is also controlled with much stricter enforcements of existing environmental impact laws for approval.
