Michael Olson Food Chain Radio – Cheap Food Isn’t – Michael Olson’s 3rd Law of the Food Chain

If we buy food from our neighbor the farmer, we can look into his or her eyes and pretty much see what’s in the food, and that gives us a lot of control.

But if we are buying food made in China, we have to rely on the word of all those who move the food along that very long food chain from there to here. Many of those who do the moving don’t even speak our language, nor do they have any way of knowing who we are or even where we are.

There are those who watch over that food for us and make certain the food is what we want it to be. There is food that has been certified organic, humanely-produced, naturally-grown, non-gmo, plant-based, shade-grown, halal or kosher, and even vegetarian-fed, though we are not certain exactly what that might be! All of these certifications assure us that the distance between us and the source of our food will not make a difference, and that what we want most in our food, whether its production was friendly to birds or sustainable or whatever, will in fact be what we are buying.

But what if our desire is as elemental as that of a mother who simply wants good food to feed her baby? That desire leads us to ask:

Leave a comment below: Who will certify that food is safe for moms?
